The first way of cleaning a laptop. for beginners
This way of cleaning a laptop from dust is designed for those who are not well versed in computer components. Even if you have not disassembled computers, let alone laptops before, follow the steps below and you will succeed.
- Screwdriver to remove the bottom cover of the notebook
- A can of compressed air (commercially available)
- Clean, dry surface on which to clean
- Antistatic gloves (optional but recommended)
Step 1. remove the back cover
First of all turn off your notebook completely: it should not be in sleep or hibernation mode. Unplug the charger and remove the battery if your model requires it.
The process of removing the cover itself may vary, but in general, you will need:
- Remove the screws on the back panel. Make sure you take into consideration that some notebook models may have screws underneath the rubber feet or stickers. Also in some cases, the screws may also be on the side edges of the laptop (usually on the back).
- After you have unscrewed all the screws, remove the cover. Most notebook models require you to move the cover to one side. Do this carefully, if you feel “something is in the way” make sure that all the screws have been unscrewed.
Step 2. Clean the Fan and Heat Sink
Most modern laptops have a cooling system similar to what you can see in the picture. The cooling system uses copper tubing that connects the video card chip and processor to the heatsink and fan. To clean the cooling system of large chunks of dust, you can first use cotton swabs, and after that clean the rest with a can of compressed air. Be careful: heat pipes and heat sink fins can be bent accidentally, and you should not do that.
The fan can also be cleaned with compressed air. Use short “squirts” so that the fan does not spin too fast. Also ensure that there are no objects between the cooling fan blades. Also avoid exerting pressure on the fan. One more thing: do not turn the air bottle upside down if you hold it vertically, otherwise liquid air can get on the boards and damage electronic components.
Some laptop models have several fans and radiators. In this case just repeat the cleaning steps above with each of them.
