Setting up Airpods for iOS gadgets is easy, but did you know that setting them up for Windows 10 isn’t much harder.

Of course, connecting Airpods or Airpods Pro to a Windows 10 PC may not be as easy as with an iOS device, but it’s a little more complicated. You simply connect the headphones via Bluetooth, a quick and easy process in Windows 10.

Note, however, that Airpods and AirPod Pro, as an Apple product, lose some functionality in Windows. They work well for listening to audio, but don’t match the microphone quality you get on iOS or macOS. Therefore, it is not recommended that you use them as your primary Windows headset.

  • It may take a few seconds for the Airpods to appear. When they do, they’ll likely show up as “Headphones” first, and then Windows 10 will load them as “Airpods Pro” (or whatever name you gave them on iOS if you have an iPhone or iPad with which you previously used them). select them.
  • You’ll get a notification, “Your device is ready to go!”

Your Airpods should immediately become your default listening device. When you put them back in your case, Windows 10 will automatically revert to the last audio device you used.

How to Use Your Airpods and Airpods Pro: A Complete Guide

Possible problems when connecting Airpods and Airpods Pro on Windows 10, 8.1 and Windows 7

Below are some common problems when using Airpods on a Windows computer and possible approaches to solve them:

  • Bluetooth works (sees other devices), but Airpods are not found. this happens with old Bluetooth adapters (as well as cheap USB Bluetooth adapters for PCs), or often caused by drivers. Try to uninstall the existing Bluetooth driver (in the device manager, uninstall the adapter and check the box “Remove drivers of this device”) and install it manually from the official website of the laptop manufacturer. Also, I have run into that on the contrary, with the official driver headphones were not found, but after its removal and automatic installation of the driver itself Windows 10, everything works fine. If you are not sure if your Bluetooth is working properly (and sometimes you have the adapter disabled, although the driver is installed and “the device is working fine), check out the separate guide: What to do if Bluetooth on your laptop does not work.
  • Airpods connection drops, intermittent sound. Here again, you can experiment with different driver versions until you find a stable. Sometimes disabling power saving for the Bluetooth adapter helps (go to the adapter properties in Device Manager, under the “Power Management” tab, disable power saving).
