IFTTT Pushover: Receiving push notifications on iPhone from any website
Different events are swirling around us at an unbelievable speed. Flows of information are becoming faster, every second something happens and you want to keep track of everything. Unfortunately, it is problematic to do this, so the most interesting topics, as a rule, we add to favorites, subscribe to various sources, and always get news fast enough. In this, oddly enough, is often helped by our mobile friend iPhone, which with the help of so-called Push-notifications always keeps us informed about the news. But if you want more “freedom”, iOS will not help you with that, because the closed nature of the system does not allow third-party applications to deeply integrate into the system. And what if you want to be notified from a place where it was not originally intended?? Move to Android, where there are millions of settings, or still solve this issue through apps created for iOS?
Hopefully intrigued. Let me explain in more detail what I wanted to convey. So, we all know that notifications are a very useful feature in our gadgets. Received a letter. pop! A notification of new mail is displayed on the screen. Mentioned in. bam! Read what you have been written. Almost any app has notification support so that you are always aware of news and current topics. Difficulties arise when, for one reason or another, there is no application for a particular site, but you certainly want to stay informed. Here we can use the wonderful service Pushover and its app of the same name.
Pushover is a service for delivering notifications to our iOS devices. If there is a site whose news we want to follow but its app is not in the AppStore, the Pushover will always notify you when a new article is published on the site. But unfortunately one Pushover will not be able to cope with such a task, he needs an assistant. In our case this will be a great service IFTTT, which Artem Kozoriz wrote about many times in his articles.
Let’s consider setting up the IFTTT service in conjunction with Pushover, using our website as an example. First you need to register on pushover.net. After registering, you will receive a unique key, which you will need to activate your Pushover channel in IFTTT. Go to ifttt.com and use this key to activate your Pushover channel.
Now we need to create a prescription in IFTTT, which will monitor the news on the site and when there is a new post notify about this Pushover, which in turn will send us a notification to your smartphone. In order to let IFTTT know when IFTTT is updating content on the site, you need to “feed” it with an RSS feed, which will contain news from the site. To do this, open the service and indicate “Feed” as the first channel (If). We will be offered two options: “New feed item” and “New feed item matches”. They are both interesting in their own way. Let’s consider the second one, which can give us a bit more options. In it we can not only keep track of new articles on the site, but also keep track of specific authorship. In the first field we can specify the author’s last name, for example Kutuzov, and in the second field we can specify RSS feed of the site. Half the job is done. Now we need to specify where the RSS data will go. this will be Pushover. Select the corresponding channel and choose again. It is not so important here. In both cases Pushover will send a notification, the only exception will be its importance, which will be displayed in red in the feed of the application. We choose the variant we like and press “Finish” button.
Our recipe is ready. Now when a new article by me comes out, Pushover will send you a notification with its title and a link to the post.
Of course, this is not all uses, which can be derived from the service. For example, this is exactly how you can set up notifications of a particular person’s Instagram posts through Pushover.
The first setting is the Instagram feed, where we specify the name of the particular user we’re interested in, and select the action that as soon as he posts a new photo, this information will be sent to Pushover. And then Pushover will notify you that a certain user has added a new photo.
Now a little about the application and the service itself. Of the interesting things in the mobile client, we can mention the notification sounds and a separate setting for those who use the mobile browser Chrome. In the first case, you can select one of several sounds, and in the second case, you can tell the app to open links not in Safari, but in the browser from Google. If we talk about the service in general, it has limitations:. for a free account, you can send no more than 7,500 notifications per month Notifications come with some delay. As the site assures, it can take up to 10 minutes. But that’s not as scary as I think it is.
Do YOU use this service?? Maybe you have some interesting uses too, which you will share with our readers in the Комментарии и мнения владельцев?
Response to notifications
When multiple notifications appear in the Notification Center or on a locked screen, they are grouped by app: this makes it easier to view and respond to notifications. Notifications from some apps can also be grouped using the sorting features in the app itself (for example, or a chain). Notification groups are grouped into small stacks with the most recent notification shown at the top.
You can do the following.
To expand a notification group and see all notifications individually, tap this group. To collapse the notification group again, tap “Show Less”.
Tap and hold the notification to view it and perform quick actions, if offered in the app (on supported models).
Tap the notification to go to the app.
App developer first registers his server with the OS notification server. After the user gives the app permission to receive notifications, the app sends a unique app ID and a unique device number to the notification server and registers with that server.
iOS requests the Apple Push Notification Service (APNS) server for the device token The app sends the device token to your server. When an event occurs for your app, the server will send a push notification to APNS. APNS will send a push notification to the user’s device.
No notifications on iPhone? How to fix
Notifications are an important part of the mobile system. If you don’t get notifications, you can easily miss important messages from family, friends, colleagues, banks, and others. We’ll try to help you solve the notification problem on your iPhone or iPad.
Turn off Do Not Disturb mode
When Do Not Disturb is active, you do not receive notifications about calls, messages, etc.п. Of course, not counting the ones you’ve added to the exceptions.
Make sure you have “Do Not Disturb” turned off. To do this, open the control panel. If the mode is active, the icon with the month is purple. Tap it to turn it off. You can also control this feature by turning off Do Not Disturb in the Focus preferences.
Send and receive push messages. Progressive Web App Training
iOS 15 introduces the Focus feature, with which you decide which notifications come when. If you accidentally turn on the function, you may not receive some notifications. Read about how to disable the feature here.
Turn off scheduled delivery
“Scheduled Delivery” is another new feature in iOS 15 that collects notifications throughout the day and then delivers the entire set at a designated time once a day.
By default the function is disabled. You may have turned it on by accident and not receive notifications right away. To disable it, select the “Notifications” section of the settings and disable “Delivery on Schedule” there.
Restart your iPhone
There may be some notifications that are not coming through due to a system error, which can be resolved by simply rebooting the device. Turn off your iPhone, wait a minute, then turn it back on. This may solve the problem.
Check your notification settings
Not all app notifications are useful. Often we turn off notifications from some applications because they only get in the way. If you suddenly disabled notifications for an app and forgot about it, it is worth checking the settings.
- In the settings select the “Notifications” section.
- Scroll down and select the app you’re not getting notifications from.
- Turn on the “Allow notifications” option.
- Check the boxes under “Locked screen”, “Notification center”, “Banners” and turn on the “Sounds” option.
Enable notifications through Notification Center
In iOS 14, you could conveniently mute notifications through “Notification Center”. It didn’t disable notifications completely, but only delivered them silently.
In iOS 15, this feature is no longer in the notification center, but it can still be turned on in another way.
There’s a new feature in iOS 15 Notification Center that lets you mute notifications from the app for an hour or a day. To turn it on, you have to swipe the notification in the notification center to the left, and then select “Options” and “Turn off for 1 hour/today”.
If you mute a notification and then delete that notification from Notification Center, you won’t be able to get notification sounds back from the app until you get a new notification from it.
You will have to wait for either an expiration date or a new notification from this app. If a new notification comes, you should select “Deliver as usual” in the settings.
Check the app settings
Many messengers and social networks have their own notification settings right in the app. Check them. You may have disabled notifications in the app itself and simply forgot about it.
Check the sound settings
- In the settings, select the “Sounds, Haptic Signals” section.
- Check that you have sounds selected for different types of notifications.
Unblock the sender
Maybe you blocked the sender you were expecting a message or call from? You can check this as follows:
- In the settings, select the “Phone”, “Messaging” or FaceTime section.
- Select “Blocked contacts”.
- If your desired contact is on the list, swipe to the left and tap “Unlock”.
In messengers, you can also turn off notifications from specific contacts or even from group chats. Check to see if you have disabled notifications in the app itself.
Check notification settings on your Apple Watch
You receive notifications on your iPhone or Apple Watch, but not on both devices.
When your iPhone is unlocked, notifications appear on your iPhone. If your smartphone is locked and you’re wearing your Apple Watch, the notification will come to your watch.
If you want to get all notifications on your iPhone only, you can set that up.
- Open the Watch app on your iPhone in the “My Watch” section and select “Notifications.
- Choose the app you want.
- Turn off the RepeatPhone option. Notifications from the selected app will then only come to your smartphone.
iMessage notifications come to your Mac instead of your iPhone?
If you have Messages open on your Mac, iMessage notifications will come to your computer, not to your iPhone. To receive notifications on your iPhone, simply close the app on your Mac.
Turn off power saving mode
In power save mode, turn off some features, such as background email updates. Notifications of incoming emails may not come because of this.
If you charge your smartphone up to 80%, the mode will turn off automatically. You can manually turn it off through management or battery settings.
Turn off “Silence of unknown persons”
You will not receive calls from those who are not saved in your contacts? You may have a feature turned on that prevents calls from unknown numbers. If you have called or messaged this number yourself, it is no longer considered a Jane Doe.
Calls from unknown numbers are sent to voice mail and appear in the list of recent calls in the Phone app.
In order not to skip such calls, select the “Phone” section in the settings and disable the “Mute unknowns” function.
Turn off sender filtering
The iPhone has a feature that filters messages from unknown senders and spam. Sometimes the function also fails to miss important messages. You can also disable through the “Messages” section in the settings. Simply disable the “Filtering by sender” option.
Update the system and applications on your iPhone
If you do not always receive notifications from one particular app, it may be because it is out of date. There may also be a system bug to blame. Update iPhone system and app itself if updates are available.
Do a settings reset
If nothing helps, try resetting all settings on your iPhone. Your apps, photos and music will remain, only your settings will be deleted.
