Every owner of iPhone or iPad at least once has had the need to record screen video of the gadget. Before iOS 11, the whole process took a long time because it required installing additional software or connecting to a desktop computer. In this piece, we’ll talk about an existing way to record iPhone and iPad screen videos without jailbreaking or a computer.
How to record iPhone and iPad screen video
Screen recording on iOS is not a new feature. There have been official and unofficial ways to do this for a long time. The difference today is that iOS 11 is the first of Apple’s mobile operating systems to introduce screen recording as a built-in feature.
iOS 11 is currently in beta testing, so this feature may change or may even be cancelled before the final release, but it’s a great feature that’s already available for anyone who wants to participate in the beta program.
Previously, iOS users who wanted to record their device’s screen had to do so by connecting it to a Mac. In iOS 11, the process is much simpler and does not require the participation of extraneous devices. There’s even a switch in the Control Panel for the new feature. With screen recording on iOS 11, you can help family members with app issues, record bugs to send to developers, or even create videos using apps. Let’s see how you can enable screen recording with iOS 11.
How to record iPhone or iPad screen video with RecordMyScreen
Almost a year ago, the Display Recorder app appeared in the AppStore. It allowed you to record iPhone screen video and save the result. The program lasted only a few days in the Apple store, after which the censors removed it from there. Quite a useful feature has interested users and is still in demand.
A worthy analogue for this purpose has recently appeared in Cydia called RecordMyScreen. The author did not try his luck and nerves of the App Store employees and immediately placed his creation in the online store of tweaks Cydia.
After installing the application, a new icon appears on the desktop, which launches the program itself. It has four tabs. The first contains buttons to start and stop recording, the second is a simple file manager to manage the finished files, the third contains settings, and the fourth informs about the developers.
Special attention should be given to the settings of the program. The first option Record, except for Screen Only, does not allow you to choose anything, however, suggests that the author in future versions will add the ability to record video from the camera device in parallel. The Video size option actually sets the resolution for the video being captured. It can be equal to screen resolution or half of it. When installing the tweak the author warns that it is impossible to get video with a crazy resolution on the Retina iPad. So, it’s always worth setting the Half size value when shooting on a tablet. There is also a function of the forced rotation of the screen. When either of these options is specified the orientation of the video clip will be appropriate. By the way, RecordMyScreen actively cooperates with the accelerometer and responds to the turns of the device.
There are also two settings for audio recording. The first sets the frequency and the second one stereo or mono mode. After configuring and pressing the Record button you need to minimize the program and shoot everything that happens on the screen. The status bar will indicate the recording process and you can quickly return to RecordMyScreen by tapping on it. The captured video can be quickly sent by e-mail, added to the gallery or opened in a third party application.
In general the program turned out to be quite functional. Of my remarks, I will note a small glitch in the first version. On iPhone 4 the app often crashes and the recording process is interrupted. There was a case when the recorded video was not opened in the gallery iOS. When recording on iPad 3 there is a decrease in overall performance and delays when scrolling through screens and menu items. Hopefully, these deficiencies will be fixed in future updates.
As the result we have a full-fledged mechanism for recording demonstration videos or game and program reviews with the possibility of recording in MP4 of high quality. The program supports iPhone 5, 4, 4S, 3GS, iPod touch 3G, 4G and iPad 2, 3, 4, mini.
I almost forgot to mention another key feature of RecordMyScreen captures video in Safe Mode. Т.е. Even when all the tweaks from Cydia are disabled.
