Mikrotik Console: General information and advantages

Mikrotik equipment configuration using the command line is carried out by introducing special commands. The console in Routeros can be compared with Bash to Linux.

Access to the console on Mikrotik routers can be obtained in several ways:

  • According to Telnet and SSH protocols using third.party applications (for example, Putty);
  • Use the built.in terminal window in Winbox or Webfig utilities.

The main and most obvious advantage of the command line compared to the WinBox graphic integration is its use in the analysis of the current configuration of the device. Using only one team, we will see all the changes made in Routeros, which differ from the default settings.

  • Reset-Counters-resurrect the values ​​of these meters;
  • Reset-Counters.ll-reset the values ​​of all meters;

First connection

In the examples, we assume that we have:

  • Router Mikrotik Hap AC 2;
  • A computer with Windows OS, which uploaded the current version of WinBox from the manufacturer’s website, at the time of writing is 3.31, earlier versions may not connect to routers with a version of ROS over 6.43.
  • Provider of access services for the Internet. Next, we will consider different types of connection to the network of the Internet services supplier.
  • Cable from the service provider (Internet), insert into the first port of the router;

Default configuration

At the first inclusion, the router loads the factory configuration, which is also called the default configuration, then “KPU”.

  • The first port is configured to automatically obtain network settings (DHCP client);
  • The remaining Ethernet ports are configured in the sweatshirt. Local subnet (LAN) is created with targeted space 192.168.88.0/24 (192.168.88.1-192.168.88.254);
  • In this configuration, a DHCP server is created, which automatically reports the settings to the devices connected to the router in the IP 192 address range.168.88.2-192.168.88.254;
  • For the possibility of initial connection to the router without the use of a cable, an open Wi-Fi network is created with the name Mikrotik-XXXXXX. where XXXXXXX is the last three hexadecimal numbers (octomet) from the MAC address of the Wi-Fi Inte Wee, they are indicated on the sticker glued to the device.

PPPOE

This is a data transfer protocol. Today, it is rarely used by providers to provide their services, giving way to more reliable and modern types of connections.

Let’s configure the PPPOE client for connecting to the provider:

  • Use Peer DNS. If we want to specify our DNS server, you need to remove the checkmark from this point. In our example, we will use the DNS provider, so we will leave this field unchanged;

Wan Settings: Dynamic IP

This type of tuning Mikrotik connection for Internet access is considered the simplest, since all the necessary network values ​​are assigned automatically. We just need to create a DHCP client and indicate it an integer. This is done as follows:

Settings WAN: Static IP

Quick firmware update

Syntax

Scripts in Routeros are a list of commands that are executed one after another. In this case, you can use various tools, such as: variables of different types, conditional operators and branches, processing of errors and the like.

Writing teams

Routeros commands are built from the following elements:

First, we indicate the path to the object, for example, IP addresses are in/IP/Address/.

Then we write the team, here are examples of possible commands:

Delay

Sometimes after performing the command you need to wait a few seconds, and then continue to execute the following commands. In this case, the command: DELAY is used. for example:

Error processing

If some team may end with an error and this should not lead to the termination of the script of the script. Then you need to process errors. This is done using Do On-Teror =. For example:

Typically, the name of the manufacturer is written at the very beginning. this is the company that has released the router. This information is also necessary, since some manufacturers have the same names of the models of routers. Especially if you google something further.
