I think they talked about it at the presentation.
@mamkuebal. psst, don’t tell anyone. The feature is secret, the article is yellow. another
@Anton Graholsky. presentation was secret tooshh.
Good morning. This feature is called “attention recognition” and it is in the Face ID settings.
I thought it was a bug. Wanted to listen to my favorite ringtone when my wife called and it went quiet(((
And that’s how he responds to incoming calls, if anything))
Yeah, super. It’s little things like this that make a positive UX. Not from a list of a million settings, five methods of authentication, and a dozen different customization options as Android-smartphone makers and Windows think.
@picatchy. They all do. It’s just not that easy to change the approach. the audience is already waiting for their million customizations.
@vugi. who’s waiting, geeks? It’s not Apple’s CA. Everyone else picks up the product and just uses it
@Anton Graholsky. we’re talking about a slightly different target audience. “how Android smartphone makers and winnda makers think”
@picatchy. Yes, but, except that if you add to the “positive UX” in the form of mutating the call with your gaze, add an axle with a godeesign, a humped display and an extensive camera pus in the back, for some reason the hand itself is drawn to Samsung, which also has its roaches, but, not to that extent. Or VanPlus 5T, at the very least. With these trends, in 5-7 years Samsung will compete with the dynamic Chinese, and the iPhones will be interesting in the same way as they are now interested in vinyl.е. Lovers of all sorts of gimmicks, yes, those who can not poke in the settings menu for 5 minutes)
@Pala. Samsung’s camera was sticking out all the time and nobody cared. And the inscription on the front panel was much more annoying than the face ID zone. As for the popularity of the iPhone, they have been predicted the same as you since the first model. As you can see, there are still quite a lot of people who appreciate simplicity and convenience. If you want to know more why, try the HCI course, then a lot will become clear. In short, there is no need to cram the person’s brain with an unnecessary choice. The computer was invented to make it easier for man to do tasks. If it is possible to make the UI “invisible” to the user, this is the ideal scenario.
@picatchy. “And the writing on the front panel was much more annoying than the face ID zone.”Are you out of your mind, sir??))) How the hell can an inscription interfere with the display.
@Clark Kent. you might want to take your eyes off it, too, sir. Neither the inscription nor the sensor area interferes with the display of the picture. Because there is, by definition, no picture in that place. The inscription was annoying by its presence, complete meaninglessness and cheap look.
@picatchy. If you like the hump on the display you can make yourself such an application on the TV screen. it’s stylish, fashionable, young in fact?) Or the people at home wouldn’t understand? And you tell them about iPhone, about Cook, about Ive And they will immediately agree. By the way, I used to tell everyone that the iPhone was really the bomb (I’ve had it myself since 2007, firmware 1.0.1), and Samsung is poop. After a while, things have unfortunately changed a lot. the secret of good iPhones Jobs definitely took with him. And now it’s just the opposite. put next to the X and s8, everything becomes clear at once (well, if you’re not a sectarian, of course)) Pyssy: about iOS 11 at the level of 4-5 android in general modestly silent)
@Pala. I certainly allow a plurality of opinions. But when a person writes such nonsense, I have no other versions except financial interest. You charge a lot for a comment?
PS, try to hold the X and S8 yourself. I’m sure that even despite your biased stance you will change your opinion
@picatchy. Yes, somewhat tired of theorists. That’s not how it used to be I absolutely agree with Pala. I wouldn’t put s8 and X next to each other, the iPhone looks like a cheap piece of shit compared to Samsung (I said that for free, not financially interested). It’s you who’s delusional, picatchy. Or are you blind??)))
Can I temporarily disable the fingerprint?
Yes, you can turn it off whenever you want. And you can close your fingerprint completely or suspend it with a variety of tricks.
◉ Press the volume down button and power button together for a second or two until the phone shutdown screen appears.
◉ As soon as you see the iPhone lock screen, immediately stop pressing buttons.
◉ Press the cancel button to cancel the phone lock screen, and Face ID will be disabled.
Keep in mind that pressing these buttons allows you to perform many other actions on the iPhone X, such as: taking a screenshot, rebooting the iPhone, or calling emergency services.
Use Face ID without looking at your iPhone
To make Face ID a reliable and secure method on the iPhone, a sophisticated system of sensors has been created that are integrated into what’s called TrueDepth. It’s partly to blame for the iPhone continuing to support “notch”. This system also allows you to add other security options, such as having to look at the screen to activate. However, this feature can be disabled.
Understandably, security will be lower on your iPhone if you disable this feature, but if for any reason you need to do so, you should follow these steps:
It should be noted that this process is the same for all types of iPhones with Face ID. Also for the third generation iPad Pro and later will work, as the route in the settings of its. The fact that Accessibility searches for these options is because this option is really for people with certain types of visual problems. Or that, for example, you need to wear dark glasses with which you can’t tell where your eyes are looking.
You will notice that there is also an option called “Features with Attention Detection”. which has a very prominent utility if you don’t want to be bothered with screen brightness. By activating it, Face ID will know if you’re looking at the screen and can turn down the brightness of the screen and lower the volume of notifications so it’s not annoying.
However, despite the usefulness of unlocking an iPhone without looking, we want to emphasize the risks involved. If you want to unlock the unlockable, everyone has a free way to unlock our iPhone by simply putting it in front of our face for a few thousandths of a second. Not only do we expose ourselves to the risk of thieves, but a loved one who doesn’t want to unlock the device can do so while we sleep.

How to fix the problem
Often the problem with the TrueDepth camera is of a hardware nature and is caused by improper use of the smartphone or a factory defect. However, there is a small chance that the error is caused by a software error. So before you go to the service center, you can try to fix the problem yourself.
To reset iPhone X you need to press and release the volume up and down keys one by one, and then press and hold the side button until the Apple logo appears.
After the initial login at the end of the reboot, you need to check the Face ID functionality in the settings. If the error message hasn’t disappeared, go to the next step.
Another option for a software solution is to reset all settings. To reset the smartphone to the factory settings it is necessary to open “Settings” → “Main” → “Reset” → “Reset all settings”.
If this doesn’t help, the problem is most likely hardware-based.
Since the feature is relatively new, it has not yet been studied thoroughly, but we can already say for sure about some of the problems that arise when using Face ID.
For the Face ID sensor to recognize you, you need to hold the phone vertically and parallel to your face, as this sensor is sensitive to tilts. Although the new iPad Pro has already “fixed” this problem, the feature works in any orientation.
At Apple’s presentation they stated that Face ID will work whether you have a beard or not, with or without glasses. And here users have encountered difficulties. The function is especially hard to work with some kinds of sunglasses.
Some users have had trouble with the recognition sensor working every once in a while. The solution to this problem has sometimes been to disable the Attention Recognition feature, which has the ability to track your gaze. But in that case, you can unlock the phone simply by pointing the front camera at your face (e.g. while you sleep).
But the most common problem, most often of a mechanical nature, is the message “There is a problem with the TrueDepth camera. Face ID has been disabled. In this case, it is 90% sure that your phone has been exposed to external mechanical impact (water inside, falls, shocks, etc.), which can cause serious problems for your phone.д.).
Face ID is not available yet!
Of course, without Face ID the iPhone X doesn’t “turn into a pumpkin”, but it’s not as convenient to use. Every time you pick up your iPhone, you have to enter the numeric password. And in the online banking application, you also have to recall the passwords. But remember, this is NOT THE BIGGEST PROBLEM IN LIFE!
It is still possible to use such a device. As an option, you can sell this iPhone for a “sweet price” and buy a new XS.
I, in turn, thank God that I took the money, not health. The main thing is that hands and feet are safe.
Please write in the Комментарии и мнения владельцев what caused the Face ID to malfunction in your situation. Share your repair experience, even if it was unsuccessful. I hope to have an UPDATE with the result of my iPhone X repair added to this article soon.
UPDATE #1 My phone was delivered to the Warsaw Apple Store. There are people who do this for a living. Price of the issue is about 30-40. The most important thing, at this point, is that the iPhone was successfully accepted by the tech. Apple support. That means I should get a fully working iPhone back.
I would like to remind you that I did NOT send the receipt or the box with the phone. I actually never had a receipt. A little over a month has passed since the shipment.
UPDATE #2 As of late the phone has been replaced with a new one. So Apple could not repair the Face ID malfunction.
UPDATE #3 After 2 months I received a brand new iPhone X with absolutely the same parameters as the old device (serial number of iPhone changed of course). The phone came with the film, wrapped in a padded envelope, without any accessories. With the phone was a paper from iSpot (official Apple distributor in Poland).
I’m finally back with my iPhone. I can’t say that two months with the Galaxy Note 8 was a torment, but the iPhone is somehow more pleasant to use.
The experience above shows that even Apple can’t fix the Face ID problem, namely the state of the phone when “Face ID is not available”. That’s why they just replace your faulty phone with a new device.
If you find yourself in this situation, contact an authorized Apple representative and if everything is OK, your device will also be replaced.
