We launch the program on the PC and the program on the phone.

Click on the phone button and connection is connected.

Everything is connected automatically. This application allows you to work with the image up to 4K. Therefore, in the program we choose the resolution we need.

The image is captured and works, now you need to bring it to OBS.

We launch our OBS. Choose the scene we need and add the source of the “Video capture”. And click on it twice to get into the settings.

Select the IRIUN WebCAM device and further put user settings.

And select the necessary resolution and frame rate.

In my experience, it is most optimal to choose Full HD 1920 for 1080 and frame rate 60.

You put all other settings as you wish, or leave it by default.

Close the window with properties and move on to color correction settings.

Download the archive, unzip it and send it to the place on your hard drive, where it will be safe.

Next, go again to OBS and, according to our capture source, click with the right mouse button.

Select the filter tab, click a plus in the window that opens and select “Apply LUT”.

Click the review button and select the LUT we need.

We close and see how our image has changed.

It didn’t sound very cool, but I saw this the opportunity to do something interesting, using my experience in developing electronics and thirst for new projects. How could this system improve?

Of course, get rid of the gamepad, from wires, to give the player the opportunity to move freely in space, see his hands and legs, interact with the environment, other players and real interactive objects.

I told this idea to my comrade, who unexpectedly took it with great enthusiasm and suggested taking on organizational issues. So we decided to stir up the startup.

To implement the declared functionality, it was necessary to create two main technologies:

1) a costume consisting of sensors on the arms, legs and a torso, monitoring the position of the parts of the player’s body

2) tracking system that tracks players and interactive objects in 3D space.

About the development of the second technology and we will talk in this article. Maybe later I will write about the first.

Of course, we did not have a budget for all this, so we had to do everything from improvised materials. For the task of tracking players in space, I decided to use optical chambers and LED markers fixed on VR glasses. I did not have any experience of such developments, but I already heard something about OpenCV, Python, and thought I could handle.

As planned, if the system knows where the camera is located and how it is oriented, then by the position of the marker image on the frame you can determine the line in 3D space on which this marker is located. The intersection of two such lines gives the final position of the marker.

Accordingly, the cameras had to be fixed on the ceiling so that each point of space was visible at least two cameras (better to avoid overlapping of the review of the players). To cover the tracking of the estimated room with an area of ​​about 100 square meters.M., about 60 cameras were required. I chose the first cheap at that time USB webca.

These webcams need to be connected to something. Experiments showed that when using USB extension cords (at least cheap), cameras began to glitch. Therefore, I decided to divide the webcam into groups of 8 pieces and stick them into the systems fixed on the ceiling. There were just 10 USB ports on my home PC, so it’s time to start developing a test stand.

For each glasses, an acrylic matte ball from a garland with an RGB LED is hung up. At the same time, several players were supposed in the game, so for identification I decided to divide them by color. R, G, B, RG, RB, GB, RB. This is how it looked:

I needed in every frame that came from the camera to look for the coordinates of the center of the ball and its color for identification. It sounds easy. I download OpenCV under Python, stick the camera into USB, I write a script. To minimize the influence of unnecessary objects on the frame, I expose the exposition and endurance on the camera at the very minimum, and I make the brightness of the LED high to get bright spots on a dark background. In the first version, the algorithm was as follows:

3) Find the contours of clusters and their centers. These are the coordinates of the ball on the frame

Connection of the IP camera

A wireless connection has a number of advantages: support for OTG protocol on the phone is not required, observation of what is happening can be performed at a distance, both on the local network and via the Internet.

Also, maybe anyone will be useful, under Android for visually impaired there is a useful function of “reading from the screen”. This is convenient for those who, in principle, can use the phone and unaccompanied, but reading the text is already difficult.
